The stories that I was not told
Obiozo Ukpabi
00:00–00:00

"As a child I loved to sneak into my father’s study and rummage through his things. His study was never used for studying. It was too dark and damp a room, located on thelower-ground floor of our home in Amsterdam."

In the audiostory, reference is made to the book of Chinua Achebe: "There was a country. A personal history of Biafra" (2012)

Amongst many written and other sources of inspiration, the author would like to also mention:

The essay of Susan Sontag: ‘Regarding the Pain of Others’ (2003)

Obiozo Ukpabi was originally educated as a historian (in Amsterdam) and continued her studies in South Africa after working for some time as a freelance journalist (in Nigeria). In Cape Town she completed a master's degree on justice and transformation and conflict resolution. Thereafter, she remained in South Africa for several years to work on land reform and structural inequality issues, facilitating dialogue and working with activists, policy makers, researchers and practitioners in the land and water sector. After she returned to the Netherlands, she worked on peace and justice issues in (post)conflict settings. Obiozo continues her work as a dialogue facilitator and conflict resolution practitioner, and became involved with Building Conversation in 2019. In 2020, she embarked on a PhD project with the University of Humanistic Studies in Utrecht. Her research focuses on meaningful redress for environmental harms in the context of resource extraction in the Niger Delta, and is part of the project Dialogics of Justice.
